Canon introduces continuous autofocus in DSLR video recording

Canon has just announced a new DSLR: the T4i/ 650D that features continuous auto focus when recording HD video!

Since the launch of the 5D MKII there’s been many models featuring HD video recording and continuous auto focus has always been something missing from these great cameras.

Canon 650D
This is a great addition for the casual film maker because auto focus is not something synonymous with filmmaking.

For the individual who wants a quick and easy to use camera with loads of features in-camera the 650D should appeal to many.

Here’s a preview from Canon:

Here’s a quick run down of the features from Digital Camera World:
Key features:
  • 18 MP APS-C
  • DIGIC 5+
  • SDHC slot, USH-1 complaint
  • Current xxD’s AF system (9 cross-type points, found in 40D, 50D, 60D)
  • T3i metering system (63 zones like 7D and 5DIII)
  • 5 fps
  • Pentamirror Viewfinder
  • ISO 100-12,800 expandable to 25,600
  • Articulated touchscreen LCD
  • Hybrid AF during video shooting
  • Frame Rate 1920×1080 (Full HD): 30p/25p/24p
  • 1280×720 (HD): 60p/50p
    • MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 video compression
I’m keen to find out what the next 7D (which sits between the 5D and the 650D) will feature.
